Since its release in 2006, the Wii console has firmly established itself as an international favourite among not only children, but adults and families too. On its arrival in December 2006 in the UK, there was such a shortage that the stores couldn't even fulfill the pre-orders for it, and some people had to wait until as late as March 2007 for their Wii.

Sporting a unique user interface in the form of its easy-to-use Wii Menu which resembles TV channels, and easy personalisation of certain games via the Mii system, one of the most amazing things about the Wii is the range of controllers available for it. The basic pack comes with the Wii Remote, a motion sensitive controller that allows interaction through pointing and tilting. There is a huge selection of other controllers available that includes both game-specific and more general controllers.

The Wii Menu is also customisable. Certain games such as Wii Fit will add their own channels to it, and still other channels can be added through the Wii Shop, one of the several channels that come with the Wii Another great advantage to the Wii console is its support for older generation Nintendo gaming products. You can play your old Nintendo GameCube titles on your Wii with no modification necessary, simply plug your GameCube memory cards and controllers into the Wii and you're all set. The Wii is also compatible with the Nintendo DS, and using its built in wireless connection, can link to your DS to enhance the functionality of some games, or to play over the network.
